Wire Transfer Migration to ISO 20022

Effective July 14, 2025, the Federal Reserve is updating the wire transfer format from FAIM (Fedwire Application Interface Manual) to ISO 20022 (ISO) format for all U.S. financial institutions. This will improve the processing efficiency and data quality of transactions, and ISO 20022 is the global standard format used by many financial institutions.

Here is everything you need to know about the changes and how to prepare.

All wires sent on or after July 14, 2025 must be in the new ISO format. Here are the key terminology changes that you will see in this new format:

Download this updated wire request form to start using July 14. If you create your own wires, save the repetitive information elsewhere to recreate your new wire template starting July 14.
Be ready to review your Creditors (Beneficiaries) on July 14, especially those that are tied to any recurring wires. You won’t be able to make changes to Creditor Information prior to July 14, so please ensure you plan to review in a timely manner.
Review your existing wire beneficiary list and delete any that you no longer need or use.
Prepare to log in early on July 14 to ensure recurring wire data is correct. Note that Recurring International USD wires will require verification and modifications to ensure transmission. They will not process without manual intervention.

Only the fields and their labels within the wire module will change, but Meridian’s Treasury Management or NetTeller product that you access each day will not change.
